Tanks For Tamariki

Who: BestStart Pipiwai Kindy

Where: Kamo, Whangarei

Products: 1 x 1,000L and 1 x 2,500L XPRESS tanks

Why: An Enviroschool empowers our young people to design and lead sustainability projects in their schools, neighbourhoods and country. By following the principles of manaakitanga (to extend love and compassion to others), kaitiakitanga (guardianship and protection) and whanaungatanga (the close connection between people), the BestStart Pipiwai Kindy in Kamo has achieved Bronze Enviroschool status. As their journey continues, they’ll soon be awarded Silver through their Enviroschool mahi.

Pipiwai Kindy teaches their tamariki how to care for the land and sustainable ways to use it as part of the programme, e.g. growing crops. Capturing and reusing rainwater is central to all this. Thanks to a Kai Ora grant, Pipiwai Kindy had money to invest in two rainwater tanks; a large tank to irrigate Te Koha (their vegetable garden) and a smaller one for other learning activities that included filling the pool at Shelley’s house – Shelley just happens to be the kindy’s resident turtle!

Pipiwai Kindy accepted the grant with gratitude, and they kept it local by approaching Promax and asking if we had tanks that would suit their needs and fit their budget.

What: Our sales team approached this project with the same mindset we take into every assignment; to find the best solution based on our client’s needs, including their budget. For example, even though Pipiwai Kindy had been granted funds through Kai Ora, they only had a limited amount of money to invest. So we recommended a 2,500-litre tank and a 1,000-litre tank from our XPRESS range. Promax makes XPRESS water tanks from high-grade polyethylene plastic with the added advantage that they’re as affordable as they are durable.

Promax came to the party with budget-friendly XPRESS tanks, and so did Smart Water & Irrigation in Kamo, who installed the tanks for free. So it was a case of two Northland companies working together to support our community – it was hugely rewarding for everyone, especially the youngsters at Pipiwai Kindy who, like us, have a deep respect for the land and the water that feeds it. Meanwhile, Shelley the Turtle has never been happier!
