Pure water storage: Promax at Cardrona Distillery
When Cardrona Distillery required large-scale storage for their water, they turned to us.

Why: There are just three ingredients in the premium single malt spirits produced by The Cardrona Distillery; malted barley, distiller’s yeast, and Alpine water. With just three ingredients, each one has to be of the highest quality, including the water. This is why Cardrona Distillery is sited facing Mount Cardrona, the source of its pure Alpine water. The water is drawn up through Alvin’s Well, a purpose built well next to the distillery.
The challenge was to maintain perfect water quality whilst meeting the need for large scale storage at the same time. The distillery turned to use and together we worked on a solution as perfect as the water.
What: Cardrona Distillery required pure water storage on a large scale: 210,000 litres for the filtration process at their distillery. Some simple maths told us that seven of our 30,000 litre Promax ENDURO water tanks would be enough to meet their storage requirements, and satisfy their other needs.
For example, water purity had to be maintained so the distillery could continue to produce a premium single malt spirit. That wasn’t a problem as we design and build our ENDURO polyethylene tanks to store clean, untainted water for drinking and household use. The tanks also had to be robust enough to withstand the extreme weather conditions and snow loading typical in that part of the South Island, while being able to blend in with the highclass surroundings of the distillery itself. Again, no problem. Our ENDURO tanks are so strong they are the only plastic water tanks in New Zealand that can be buried up to one metre in the ground and still retain a 20-year warranty. At the same time, their contemporary design and range of colours complement every setting.
